Social Media In The Age of Growing “Un-truths”

Perhaps it is just my cynical realist mind that always betrays me when I open my Instagram page for the thousandth time only to look upon the same endlessly vapid accounts invading my mind.

It somehow escapes my notice every day to rid myself of the toxic images that continue to relentlessly occupy my entire conscious. I know it is mere foolishness; what is on the surface is never what is seen deep beneath, as life has consistently managed to remind me. Yet, the images will always occupy my mind even after my revelations.

Dissecting the entertainment and comedic values of social media in a cost-benefit analysis would probably make any sane Gen-Z teenager realize the true extent of such toxic places of communication. But the memes are worth it, I guess. Always the memes. And once again, in the words of William Blake: “A truth told with bad intent, beats all the lies you can invent.” Perhaps we should remember this honorary quote before skipping to conclusions the next time we see our screens in the dark, glowing with artificial pixels, illuminated by the buzz of a thousand fans, devoid of the true harsh spillages of life, and possibly as edited as it can be.
